Disclosures & Ethical Code

My intention is to offer services that uphold standard ethical practices as I support clients to access self-awareness, self-trust, and free will that inspires spiritual, creative, and personal growth.

Professional Conduct

Abiding by Laws. As a tarot guide, I am aware of laws, codes, and regulations for business. There are laws about tarot as fortune-telling, and the services rendered by this tarot guide do not make claims about fortune-telling. An inquiry may be compared to brief coaching where self-awareness, reflection, and personal inspiration are the hopeful outcome of engaging with a tarot guide. Tarot and oracle cards are used as a catalyst and tool for inspired discussion or exchange of information that may be of help to a person considering various points of view.

Scope of Practice. I make no claims about being psychic or telling the future. I do not provide legal, financial, or medical advice and do not engage in tarot guide sessions with persons under the age of 18. I offer service to people of any identity without judgment or discrimination. While some clients find tarot readings helpful, meaningful discussions, they are not therapy and should not be confused with mental health care by a licensed professional.

I hold a license as a social worker, however, the brief interaction in my role as tarot guide with you as tarot guide client does not constitute a therapist-client relationship or therapy in any way. To avoid confusion, I will not provide tarot guide sessions to therapy clients.

As a tarot guide, I provide constructive discussion that seeks to empower clients to trust their own intuition, increase self-awareness, and inspire spiritual, creative, and personal growth, and/or enhance self-reflection and wholly individual decision making. Any inspiration or potential for growth resides within the individual and within the framework of the individual’s beliefs and practices that I will not attempt to influence or change. While the point of engaging with a tarot guide is to seek guidance, any decisions made by the client are the client’s sole responsibility and all decisions stem from the client’s own consideration of their personal circumstances about which I cannot possibly be fully aware.

Referrals to Qualified Professionals. If you have concerns related to legal, financial, or medical issues, I will always suggest you obtain the services of an appropriately trained and licensed financial advisor, attorney, and/or physical and/or mental health practitioner.

Right to Reject Subsequent Reading Requests. I reserve the right to refuse or discontinue a tarot guide session at my own discretion at any time. If I must discontinue a reading due to an unsafe situation developing, which is in my sole discretion, no refund will be provided.

No Dishonesty, Fraud, Deceit, or Misrepresentations. I do not and will not use tarot or oracle cards in a way that claims knowledge of future events. I do not claim to communicate with persons not present whether living or deceased. I will not make claims about outcomes of decisions or participate in deceptive practices such as promising resolutions of issues for an additional fee. While I list titles of programs and training completed relating to the use of tarot, I do not misrepresent competence, qualification, or ability. Education undertaken formally or informally should not be interpreted as a representation of competence, qualification, or ability. Rather, it is shared to provide information about my pursuit of tarot and tarot-related education and information that merely proves interest in tarot and oracle cards and their uses for general personal growth.

Third-Party Consent. I do not provide readings for anyone not directly inquiring of a reading and present for the reading (or requesting asynchronously online such as through e-mail, in which case the reading is intended for the person assumed to be making the e-mail/online request). I rely on the honesty and report of the inquiring persons under the assumption that a client is inquiring about themselves.

Communications

The Reading Process. A tarot guide session is a dialogic process. I act as a guide to self-awareness and independent decision-making by you, the client, through discussion. The reading will not include reference to curses, malicious influences, supernatural, or occult phenomena. Clients can expect that I will ask questions and engage in dialogue to elucidate information that will facilitate the discussion of topics generated by the client.

Disclosures. In addition to this Ethical Conduct Statement, this tarot guide will verbally and in writing convey to a client that tarot readings do not and cannot replace the advice or services of mental health providers, physicians, attorneys, or financial advisors. A tarot reading with this tarot guide is for entertainment purposes and/or for self-reflection with a person outside a client’s personal acquaintances that functions like a one-time or brief consultation with a life coach.

Fees

Statement of Fees. I list fees online and state any fees before a reading occurs. Fees cannot be altered after conclusion of a reading. If a client requests additional services during a reading, such as an extended reading from a shorter one, this constitutes a new transaction, the fee for which will be stated prior to provision of the additional service. At no time will I withhold information until an additional fee is paid.

Group Payments. In the instance where one person seeks to engage my services for a group, and the fee is in excess of $500, a contract shall be developed and the terms of which will be agreed upon in advance of the planned event. This relates to payment by persons for services and tax implications for large payments such as issuing a 1099 and/or me providing a W-9 to support payments made in excess of $500. If a single person pays for services and seeks to collect individual payments, the payments will not exceed the amount agreed to be paid to me unless related to a fundraising event, the nature of which will be part of the contract. If a single person pays for services in excess of $500 and will collect individual fees from participants as a convenience among friends and not as a business, a contract will be required, and I will record payment as if it was provided by the number of individuals listed in the contract to avoid a tax implication for the single payor. Example: when securing tickets to a sports or theatre event, one friend pays for all the tickets on a credit card and the others who will attend reimburse the person whose credit card is used for payment.

Referral Fees. I may suggest that you engage with a professional for legal, medical, and/or financial advice in keeping with my ethical stance of not providing advice or direction in these areas. I am not affiliated with nor receive commission or referral fees from any professional or entity. If the website connects a client to another business, the nature of that relationship will be clear and easily determined such as what is called an “affiliate link.” Within the conversation that occurs within the tarot guide session, I may at times mention a store, website, book, or other materials or services based on personal experience with the entity or item and/or based on another client suggesting the entity or item. Any such mention shall only be interpreted as a courtesy or interpersonal exchange of information and not a requirement, directive, or endorsement. For example, if a client asks about where a specific tarot deck can be purchased, I may mention a store or website where it might be found. Another example may be that a client shares a love of reading mysteries, and I share personal favorites. Under no circumstances will I recommend any business, service, website, or store from whom/which I will earn compensation of any kind for such referral unless that compensation or affiliate relationship is disclosed.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality Commitment and Exceptions. There should be no assumption of legal evidentiary privilege between a tarot guide and client. I agree as part of professional integrity to be bound by a duty of confidentiality. I will not reveal personal or private information relating to a client unless the client reveals an intention to harm themselves, others, or otherwise states intention to commit a crime, in which case the tarot guide session will end, the client will be informed that a report will be made to safety personnel, and I will contact safety personnel to safeguard life and property.

Records. A tarot guide is not a licensed provider and thus does not have a legal duty to retain records aside from financial records of sales as required by tax law for reporting purposes. Clients are welcome to take notes or take photos of a spread of cards. Clients are prohibited from audio-recording a session. Under general privacy laws, recording persons without their consent is illegal and a deceptive practice not conducive to mutually respectful relationships in entertainment or life coaching.

Disclosures

General Practice Disclosures. I shall post a disclosure statement prominently at office locations, storefronts, on websites, reading venues, or commercial marketing materials that states essentially as follows:

Disclosure Statement: A tarot guide cannot predict the future and a client should not rely on a tarot reading to make any decision that would affect legal, financial, or medical matters. If a client inquiry involves the law, finance, or medical care, then a client should seek the advice of a licensed or qualified legal, financial, or medical professional. Specifically, a tarot reading cannot replace qualified mental health care. A tarot reading only intends to facilitate self-awareness and reflection that may provide personal growth. A tarot guide session is often used similarly to one-time or brief life coaching or seeking the opportunity to explore a topic with a person not connected to the situation a client seeks to explore. Some states and municipalities require a statement that tarot readings are only for entertainment purposes, and this is notice of that herein. I am bound by a self-imposed code of ethics, which is available on my website and into which this statement is incorporated on the page about this topic on my website.

Certification Disclosures. A tarot guide is not required to be certified and there is no identified certification process or governing board. However, since I obtained specialized training in tarot and its uses, I hereby disclose the organization that issued the certification. Specifically, I earned a certificate in Holistic Witchery conveyed by The Sisters Enchanted (TSE) that included tarot card reading instruction. I also completed TSE Tarot Throwdown and Tarot and Storytelling classes and I have years of self-directed study of tarot and coaching skills. I took a Tarot of You course and have taken webinars by Daily Tarot Girl and Biddy Tarot.

Public Service

I am dedicated to public service as part of “giving back” to the community in which I work. I offer services to non-profit organizations. I am also dedicated to furthering professional practices related to tarot by helping others who wish to practice reading skills or who inquire about mentoring for aspiring tarot guides.

Continuing Education

I pledge to continue education through classes, workshops, conferences, symposia, conventions, reading, and independent study of the practice of tarot to my craft and skill as a tarot guide.

Hold Harmless & Waiver of Liability Implied Agreement

WAIVER OF LIABILITY

Services provided by Kate Willow Robinson are not fortune telling or future predictive. That said, there is a law that states that anyone who does tarot reading informs potential clients that tarot readings for fortune telling are for entertainment purposes only.

Any tarot consultation is subject to interpretation and drawing cards at random is similar to card drawing at a casino or in any other card game. There are thousands of tarot decks and books that interpret card meanings in different ways. In a tarot guide© session, the cards are used as a catalyst for dialogue and as a frame for exploring a topic or question you bring to the consultation.

Tarot consultations never replace financial, legal, physical health or mental health opinions or advice of tax, investment, law, and/or medical personnel of any kind. Tarot consultations do not supersede free will and your own personal control over decision-making in your life. You are not compelled to follow any suggestion or option that comes up in the discussion during the tarot guide© consultation. Any actions, decisions, or direction taken is your sole responsibility and choice. You hereby release and hold harmless Kate Willow Robinson, your tarot guide©, for any legal liability, losses, damages, or adverse circumstances you face as the result of decisions, actions, or choices you make as the result of a tarot guide© consultation. Your sound judgement or seeking of financial, legal, or medical counsel and treatment should be used, as well as your in-depth knowledge of your own personal circumstances.

It is only with the complete understanding and acceptance of the above that your reading will take place.

In the event that psychological material is brought forward that is best served by a professional therapeutic relationship, referrals may be provided or suggestions made that you pursue mental health support.

I do not offer tarot readings to anyone under 18 years of age.

By accepting this reading, you confirm you are 18 years of age or over.

Since Kate Willow Robinson does not keep records of client information, as a method of protecting privacy, engaging in a tarot guide© reading with Kate means that I fully understand and agree to the above terms and forfeit all right to bring a suit against Kate Willow Robinson, any stake holders or the stakeholders of any property where Kate Willow Robinson, Tarot Guide© is operating, including in the event of accident in which I am harmed. I will make every effort to obey safety precautions as listed in writing and as explained to me verbally. I will ask for clarification when needed and understand that a tarot, oracle, and/or SoulCollage® reading is not in any way a psychotherapeutic relationship, and therefore is not governed by, or responsible to, relevant licensing boards. Specifically, I am aware that participating in a tarot guide session does not establish a client-therapist relationship and I am aware that Kate Willow Robinson does not see tarot guide clients for therapy to clearly delineate each as separate and exclusive services.
